Amy Applegate is an oil painter, currently pursuing an MFA at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She earned her BFA in painting from the Herron School of Art + Design in Indianapolis and has exhibited at galleries across the United States. We sat down for a conversation about the intersections of home and studio spaces, the stories our objects take on, and the practice of putting precious items to use rather than letting them sit on a shelf.
For this issue, we asked Amy to share significant objects in her life as an artist. Many of her selections play a dual role as both practical objects and subject matter in her paintings.
