Melissa Dunn’s studio is in her house in Memphis, TN, where she was born and has spent most of her life. She spent her early years immersed in the city’s music scene, splitting her time between playing with bands and making visual art. Her drawings and paintings are based in abstraction, telling the stories shapes and color carry, either over a lifetime or through a passing thought. Her work is a landing pad where stream of consciousness and the world meet.
She had a solo show earlier this year at Crosstown Arts in Memphis, and recently finished up a six month @HOME Residency for studioELL, where she’s also teaching an online class this summer called Keeping a Sketchbook. Her current exhibit, Accordion File: Daydreams, is on view at Flyweight Projects in Brooklyn, NY through August 20.
