Nicholas Thomson is a painter and writer from San Francisco. He lives in Brooklyn with his wife and their many cats.

I always enjoy talking art with Nicholas, and seeing what he’s been up to in the studio. This week, we had the opportunity to discuss his creative process and the personal, “interior domestic stuff” which makes up the subject matter of his paintings. Nicholas’ art practice is scaffolded by a workspace integrated into his daily life, a strong community network he collaborates with through portraiture, therapy, and a commitment to representational painting and storytelling as crucial and relevant modes of artmaking. These are some of the objects which bring his work to life.
