I don’t pray in the same way that I used to, but I still think about one of the philosophies of prayer that most resonates with me. It is the idea that you do not pray solely on the hope that it will change your circumstances by way of an act of God, but because the practicing of it will change you.
Lately, I have been reading a few reflections on how other people are resisting capitalism’s siren song and working to minimize their consumptive impact. I’m thinking of this one from Lisa Sibbitt of The Auntie Bulletin, which also has a rich text of a comments section.
These kinds of breakdowns are so helpful to me, and, at the same time, talking about our ethics online is a dangerous game for people prone to scrupulosity or shame.
