Anna Powell Denton is a photographer and filmmaker in Bloomington, Indiana. Her work spans the genres of portraiture, lifestyle, and music with an emphasis on color and detail. She lives in Bloomington, Indiana with her husband and enjoys making photos throughout the Midwest.

After many years, it was a delight to reconnect with Anna this fall through her portraiture of Madeleine Jurkiewicz featured in an earlier issue of Circling. Anna sat on her porch for our conversation, a fitting backdrop as we chatted about her career as a photographer, working for yourself, and balancing the artistic and pragmatic needs that this requires. Self-styled routines and rituals anchor her days in a domestic space that houses her office, as well as provides space for the distinctly non-work time and activities which sustain her creative life.
